Posted by on January 24th, 2018

When it comes to New Year’s resolutions we often choose to focus on doing more exercise or eating
healthier, and it can be easy to forget the basics like looking after our hair. Here are four important
hair care resolutions that you should make in 2018 – these will help keep your hair in tip top
condition all year long.

DON’T Forget to take care of your hair tools
Taking care of the tools you use as part of your daily hair routine is a super important. Use an alcohol
soaked cotton ball to clean the grime from your hair straighteners, and clean your favourite
hairbrush regularly to remove old hair and dust – if you need to know how to clean a hairbrush click
here. Just make sure that you take the best care of the tools that help you taking care of your hair!
DO Brush your hair regularly
Knowing how to clean a hairbrush is only one part of the hair care routine, so make sure that besides
cleaning your brush regularly, you’re also using it to brush your hair at least twice a day. Be gentle
with your strands, start at the bottom and make your way up. And remember to choose the right
tool for the job, including using a comb when your hair is wet and a round brush for blow drying.
DON’T Over wash your hair
Your head creates natural oils which are designed to condition and protect your hair, so washing
more than two to three times a week can actually be bad for your strands. Over washing your hair
simply stimulates an over production of oils and you will end up in a vicious cycle resulting in the
need to shampoo more often. This is especially true with coloured hair. If your hair can go 3 days
without a wash, take advantage of it and let it be. You can always use the help of dry shampoos for
more volume in the meantime.
DO Make regular visits to your hair salon
Depending on the length of your hair, the time you can leave between visits to your hair salon will
vary. The shorter the cut, the less time it will remain in style; so you may need to make a visit every
four weeks. For long hair a visit every six weeks will ensure you keep on top of split ends. If you have
decided to grow your hair out you should still get a cut every so often, around every eight weeks or
so. Just because you want longer hair doesn’t mean that you don’t need to keep it healthy!
From knowing how to clean a hair brush properly to ensuring you make that all important trip to
your hair salon, make sure that you stick to these easy hair resolutions in order to have luscious
locks all the way through 2018!
