When it comes to New Year’s resolutions we often choose to focus on doing more exercise or eating
healthier, and it can be easy to forget the basics like looking after our hair. Here are four important
hair care resolutions that you should make in 2018 – these will help keep your hair in tip top
condition all year long.
So the Summer has finally gone and the leaves are starting to change colour. When Autumn begins we think about lots of things: new plans and opportunities, excitement about winter holidays or Christmas. What we’re not often thinking about is our hair care. This might seem like a small consideration with everything else going on in October, but Autumn
1. Make sure your nail bed is completely clean – We’re talking free from all oil and cream. Varnish will adhere better to a dry, clean nail.
2. Always use a base coat – This will even-out the nail bed ready for painting and also help protect the nail against staining. You can save pennies by buying OPI’s “start to finish” as it ca be used a base coast as well as a top coat.
3. Apply your
Oily: Wash your hair less frequently (pick your moment after a colour or when you are on holiday) with a mild shampoo, a strong shampoo clears grease by stripping away natural oils but this will stimulate your glands to step up oil production. Avoid massaging or scrubbing your scalp as this will also stimulate your glands increasing oil production. Use Organic Aqua Boost or Redken Cleansing Cream as this is light on the hair. Dry & Limp: Avoid perms and heated styling tools. Condition regularly and use mild shampoos to avoid stripping the hair of moisture. Mousse and hairspray will allow you to create height and give the illusion of thicker fuller hair.
Dry & Frizzy: Treat yourself to regular trims to remove dry, frizzy ends. Condition with rich creams and apply leave-in conditioning sprays to help smooth the frizz. Try setting the hair on rollers to help even out the frizz. Avoid using heated styling tools. Instead use moisturising styling products, such as wax and moulding cream to slick the hair into shape.

Afro: Chemical straightening can smooth out and control frizz but this should only really be done at a salon. Perms can even out the curl texture if your hair is in good enough condition. Make the most of your hairs potential for sculpted and woven shapes. Pay extra attention to condition.

Thick & Coarse: Styling potential is great as this type of hair can take a lot of punishment, but don’t over do it and condition regularly. When dry, this type of hair absorbs perm chemicals quickly but the natural weight can make the curl drop out.
Medium: Don’t over use heated styling tools as this hair type can quickly loose its condition. Make sure the hair is in tip-top condition before considering a perm or colour treatments. Pay careful attention to conditioning at all times. Condition after every shampoo and have regular trims. Use Organic Status Quo which is a mild shampoo that doesn’t cause build up. Fine/ Curly: Choose layers for maximum curl or one-length cuts to relax over-tight curls.
